Effective Goal Setting in Clinical Social Work Practice

The therapeutic process in clinical social work is a series of achievements allowing the client to progress toward the desired outcome.  While some goals may be met without conscious effort, overt specifications and measurments facilitate success.  This presentation will explore the purpose and process of effective goal setting as a significant tool in the practice of social work.  After attending, participants will have a greater understanding of:

  • How setting effective goals empowers and motivates clients
  • Key elements of an effective goal
  • Options when goals are achieved
  • Options when goals are not achieved
