I am an LCSW with over 20 years of experience that includes an inpatient acute psychiatric setting, an intensive outpatient program, an outpatient clinic, and a private practice. I have worked extensively with patients suffering from psychotic disorders, personality disorders, mood disorders, and substance use. A vast majority of them have a history of trauma; therefore, I am always focused on trauma-informed care in my practice. My professional interests include, but are not limited to, suicide and depression and are reflected in my publications on the topic. I am trained primarily as a psychodynamic psychotherapist and my clinical, as well as supervisory, work is informed by traditions of psychoanalysis. I am quite flexible, however, in my approach, as I strongly believe that we have to be led by the patients’ clinical needs rather than strictly by a certain theoretical framework. My supervision philosophy is flexible as well. While I believe in rigorous clinical training, I am in support of my supervisees’ developing their own clinical style and pursuing their own professional interests in the treatment modality of their choice, whether it is CBT, DBT, family systems, mindfulness or any other approach that speaks to them. In terms of my credentials as a supervisor, I completed a 2-year Advanced Clinical Supervision program at Smith College and for the past 15 years have been supervising social work interns in their field placements and new MSW graduates towards licensure. I graduated from UCONN with a bachelor of arts degree in 1991. Soon after I begin working for the state Child Welfare system in 1995. I pursued my graduate studies at UCONN School of Social Work obtaining my Masters degree in 1997. I continued my studies and obtained my license in Clinical Social Work in 2001. I eventually opened my own practice, providing counseling services to children and their families. I started providing supervision in 2003. I eventually returned to Child Welfare and currently hold a position of Program Supervisor. In 2006 I also became employed at an Outpatient Behavioral Health practice providing outpatient therapy. I have continued to build extensive clinical expertise as a psychotherapist throughout that time. I regularly mentor colleagues consult on clinical cases and support professional development.
